Welcome to Visit Richmond Our Veterans Community Project

Your guide to exploring history, community, and countryside in the heart of North Yorkshire.

Welcome to the first edition of Visit Richmond, a digital magazine dedicated to celebrating the people, places, and stories that make Richmond one of Yorkshire’s most treasured towns.

Set on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and right on the doorstep of Catterick Garrison, Richmond is a welcoming and easily accessible destination for veterans and military families looking to explore the local area, reconnect with nature, and discover something new.

Whether you’re wandering through cobbled streets, taking in the history of Richmond Castle, visiting The Station, or enjoying peaceful riverside walks along the Swale, Richmond offers space to reflect, connect, and recharge.

As part of our broader Town & Dale initiative, this magazine also supports veterans’ wellbeing — encouraging them to:

  • Get outdoors and engage with the natural world

  • Capture their own photographs and write about their experiences

  • Combat loneliness and isolation through creativity, exploration, and shared purpose

  • Contribute to a living record of local history, culture, and community life

📬 Pick Up a Postcard – Share the Story

We’re also excited to share that a selection of our photographs — taken by veterans and local contributors — have been commissioned into high-quality postcards, available free of charge at key locations across the area.

Each postcard features a striking, stamp-style QR code that links directly to both the Visit Richmond and Town & Dale digital magazines, offering tourists, visitors, and local residents a lasting souvenir of their time here — and a gateway to more stories, more places, and more ways to connect.

Inside every issue, you’ll find:

  • Richmond’s must-see sights and hidden gems

  • Exclusive offers and highlights from local businesses

  • What’s on: events, markets, and community happenings

  • Veteran and local voices sharing stories of place and purpose

  • Links to wellbeing resources and support services

We believe Richmond isn’t just a place to visit — it’s a place to feel part of. A place to explore, reflect, and rediscover what makes our towns and countryside so special.

Thank you for reading — and welcome to Richmond.
