Buckden Ghyll: The Hidden Gorge of Upper Wharfedale
While most visitors to the village of Buckden stick to the popular “Dales Way” or the main bridleway up Buckden Pike, Buckden Ghyll (also known as Buckden Beck) offers a more adventurous, “off-the-beaten-path” experience. It is a dramatic limestone gorge carved into the side of the fell, hidden behind the Buck Inn.
Brown Beck Scar: The Dales’ Hidden Staircase
Hidden deep within the rugged landscape of Upper Swaledale, near the remote hamlet of Keld, Brown Beck Scar is one of the most secluded and atmospheric waterfall sites in the Yorkshire Dales. While the “Big Four” falls of Keld (like Kisdon Force) draw the crowds, Brown Beck Scar remains a “local’s secret”—a vertical limestone cliff where the beck tumbles in a series of delicate, silver ribbons.
